The Fall of Shane Dawson

Image
For my Social Media Etiquette project, it was easy to pick a YouTuber that I was once obsessed with, Shane Dawson. Before completing this project, I was vaguely familiar with the various times he had been canceled online, along with his responses to viewers calling him out for it. However, I took this project as an opportunity to dive deeper into the details of his cancellations. With that being said, what I can take away now from Shane Dawson is that he is quite disgusting as a human being, and I am now uncomfortable with the fact that I spent the majority of my pre-teen and adolescent years consuming content from him.  I explain some of the specifications of why Shane Dawson was canceled in my video-formatted presentation, but if you guys are interested in finding out the extent of how far his cancellations go, I would recommend researching it yourself. There are numerous instances where Shane Dawson portrays Racism, pedophilia, Homophobia, and sometimes Zoophilia.  W...

MicroCenter Vs. Banggood

Image
Originally, I planned to complete the good/bad website smackdown for two clothing websites: Nike and Shein. I had to choose an alternative website since Shein was already selected, so I turned to two technology websites: Micro Center and Banggood. Banggood is more akin to Temu/AliExpress than a sole technology store like Micro Center, but as I browsed the site, I noticed that most of the items they sell are technology-related.  At first glance, you can 100% tell which website is the good one and the bad one. Banggood is cluttered and hard to navigate, and Microcenter is cleaner and easier to navigate. Even though there are categories on Banggood’s website, the items within those categories are extremely vague, making it difficult to find something you may need. On the other hand, Microcenter has specific categories within its website that allow you to find exactly what you are looking for. As someone who has had an interest in computer building, trying to...

Technology Blog #4: Learning Through Others

Image
Chapter 3 of The Connected Educator , by Sheryl Nussbaum-Beach, explores the idea of Learning from others to become a great connected educator. There were a few concepts that I took away from this chapter and reflected on in my real-life experience.       There are numerous instances that I learn from others. It originates from something simple, like group-based work in my college classes, and extends to meaningful conversations with co-workers about their years of hands-on experience. Last week, I concluded a month-long book club in one of my classes. Even though the book club’s main purpose of students to share their own perspectives on the book material, I took away more knowledge about public speaking strategies and engaging in meaningful conversations. The chapter's emphasis on Learning through connectivity reminded me of what I really took away from all of those book club discussions.   Additionally, I had an instance yester day when I went to ...

Webtool Smackdown #2: OneNote

Image
For my second webtool smackdown, I chose to talk about the website/app called OneNote. This Tool is made by Microsoft, and it is essentially a virtual notebook. I have used this tool on and off since my sophomore year of high school, right before COVID started. I began to use it specifically in my chemistry class, which allowed us to have all of our notes and worksheets virtually. We used this application with one of the main reasons that you are able to write on documents like a notebook, and since at the time we had a Lenovo with styluses, we were able to flip our laptops and write in OneNote like it was pen and paper.      The OneNote skills I learned from that class I have taken with me ever since, all the way to my senior year in college. One of the main features I use it for now is uploading PDFs into it, and highlighting on the PDF, as if it were a physical book/ article. That feature also allows me to easily annotate any notes I have on the sid...

Technology Blog #3: Navigating A Digital Footprint in the Gen Z universe

Image
The digital space online has thoroughly evolved over the years, which has opened the gates for many applications and tools to be created. In Chapter 5 of The Connected Educator , Sheryl Nussbaum-Beach explains the concept of Social bookmarking (tagging) and various online tools to use for personal or within networks of connected learners. Before reading this chapter, I was unfamiliar with the term “bookmarking”. After further research, I discovered that the term and some of its applications (Delicious, Diigo, and Flickr) are starting to become more outdated, and some of the more modern Bookmarking applications include Reddit and Pinterest ( Sproutsocial.com ). Pinterest has been one of my favorite forms of bookmarking since middle school, and it has allowed me to organize different areas of inspiration for my life.  Above: My real Pinterest account      My main takeaway from Chapter 5 is the importance of managing a good online reputation by build...

Google Calendar App Smackdown

Image
Google Calendar is a tool I have used extensively over the years in various aspects of my life. I was introduced to it before coming to Stockton, and I used it occasionally to remind myself when certain things were happening. I have now mastered this app in a way that fits my own needs and organizational methods.       A good way to keep this app accessible to my eye at all times is to set it as a widget on my devices. I have a widget set on my phone lock screen with upcoming events, so I know how to prepare for what is to come next. I also have a widget on my home screen on my iPad that allows me to add new events if I am taking notes in class.       This app is extremely customizable in the sense that anyone can use it to their own expense. This app can be used for upcoming events, meetings, or it can even be used to see when free time is acceptable to do something enriching. I talk in my presentation linked down below about ...
